Sr. Director, Judicial National Engagement - Immigrant Children Focus

We are in search of a Senior Director, Immigrant Children Focus. Under the supervision of the Judicial and National Engagement Managing Director, the Senior Director will join the child welfare legal capacity team of JNE, with a specific expertise is the immigration legal needs of children in foster care, or other supervision status with the United States government. This position does not provide direct legal representation.
This position is based at our Seattle, WA headquarters and required to be in person regularly. Remote work is not an option for this position.
Job Summary:
This position will join an established team of child welfare legal experts who offer technical assistance to legal stakeholders nationwide. The Senior Director will offer expertise to build capacity of agencies, and other legal stakeholders to support of children and families at the intersection of immigration and child welfare systems. This position advances Casey’s service to immigrant children and families who are also experiencing child protection agency involvement.
The individual in this position will have relevant expertise in representing children in immigration proceedings, child welfare legal best practices, initiative planning, development, and implementation, and effective engagement, including co-design strategies and structures. The position will support the Judicial and national engagement team in the overall mission to improve the capacity of the legal stakeholders to improve outcomes for children and families experiencing child protection agency involvement.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Identify and spread effective and quality practices across the country to meet the needs to children who are at the intersection of immigration and child welfare, and effectively spread the practices to jurisdictions through education, partnerships, and direct technical assistance.
- Maintain and develop relationships with other legal partners in this area to foster coordinated and supportive strategies to serve targeted population.
- Establish and maintain trusting and effective relationships within Casey to identify collaborative opportunities to spread immigration capacity for children in foster care.
- Develop and present educational presentations at National Conferences, or State or local educational events on immigration needs of children in foster care.
- Conduct efficient and effective project management with autonomy and accountability.
- Expertise in developing educational presentations for legal and non-legal audiences.
- Lead and coordinate plans, prioritization of resources, performance milestones and status reports for the organization’s collective progress toward annual goals.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with an ability to communicate clearly and share timely information with diverse audiences.
- Responsible for project documentation, development, implementation, performance results, outcomes, partnership engagement, and recommendations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Products: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Physical requirements include the ability to lift and reach for light objects; close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, text, and figures; ability to type utilizing a computer keyboard; ability to travel to outside locations; and the ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time as a primary job function.
- Travel of up to 50% is required. Driving on Casey business may require use of personal vehicle; adherence to vehicle safety guidelines and qualification for insurance is required.
Desired Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate (J.D.) .
- Minimum of 7 years of legal practice in the child welfare field and demonstrated capacity with serving the immigration legal needs of children in foster care.
- Competency in child welfare legal best practices, and immigration tools and strategies to serve the needs of non-citizen children.
- Demonstrated experience in leading legal program changes or implementation, or technical assistance to legal offices, programs.
- Ability to work with ambiguity, highly adaptable, and flexible, and ability to think critically and with an innovative mindset.
- Demonstrated critical thinking about the factors that contribute to children and family’ well-being with a specific focus on underserved and disproportionately represented children, families and communities. Knowledge of the root causes and lived experiences of immigrant children, youth, and families as well as the landscape of various organizations focused on this population.
- Experience advancing equity, respect for tribal sovereignty, and respect for cultural, racial, gender, and ability differences.
- Proven organizational and time management skills, with particular emphasis an attention to detail; the ability to work independently and handle multiple on-going tasks; and the ability to coordinate among multiple agencies and partners required.
- Ability to perform effectively in high pressure and stressful work environment while balancing the responsibilities and stressors inherent in the role.
- Ability to work onsite full-time to meet the collaborative responsibilities that are essential for position. Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Casey Family Programs requires a COVID-19 vaccination for in-person work. Therefore, all employees will be required to present proof of vaccination status unless they qualify for a medical or religious exemption.
This position is based at our Seattle, Washington Headquarters office. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary range between the minimum and the midpoint salary range, $149,600 to $176,000. Placement in the range will depend on a candidate’s job-related skills, experience, and expertise, as evaluated during the interview process. The full salary range for this role is $149,600 to $202,400 annually.
Casey Family Programs offers comprehensive benefits including medical, dental and vision coverage, 10 paid holidays per year and each employee receives one personal holiday to use each calendar year. Employees that meet certain tenure qualifiers are eligible for up to eight weeks of parental leave for the birth or placement of a child for adoption or foster care. After the completion of 10 years of continuous, full-time regular employment, employees in good standing are permitted for a three-month sabbatical with pay.
