About the Event
The Philip L. Burton Memorial Scholarship Dinner is the Loren Miller Bar Association's premier annual fundraising event supporting diversity in the legal profession.
Founded in Seattle in 1968, LMBA is a civil rights organization named after Attorney Loren Miller, who successfully argued the landmark civil rights case Shelley v. Kramer (1948). For 56 years, LMBA has confronted civil rights issues, advanced our members' social and economic well-being, and fostered strong relationships between legal professionals and the community.
Through the Loren Miller Bar Foundation, we provide scholarships to deserving third-year law students of Black/ African American descent and students committed to improving the Black/ African American community. These scholarships help offset expenses for the Washington State Bar Examination, increasing representation from underrepresented groups in the legal profession.
